Acrylic Cutting Time Reduced from a Day to an Hour

Our Partner COMNET interviewed Mr. Masafumi Uda, the representative of Oizumi Kogei, who introduced the GCC LaserPro C180II (30W) laser engraver that can engrave as well as cut. He shared insights into the reasons for choosing our laser engraving and cutting machine, its applications, and the benefits of introducing it.

What issues did you have before introducing the laser engraving machine?

Before introducing laser engraving machines, we utilized a scroll saw (woodworking sewing machine) for cutting acrylic. The cutting time with a scroll saw was considerably longer, at times requiring an entire day for a single cut.

As we also manage sign installations, our objective was to minimize cutting time, allowing more time for installation tasks. Furthermore, we recognized the necessity to broaden the range of materials that could be processed.

What are the reasons and main considerations for introducing the laser machine?

Upon visiting the SIGN EXPO (an exhibition for the signage industry held in Osaka), I began considering the purchase of COMNET's laser engraving machine. The laser engraving machine seemed like a solution to reduce work time, a challenge we were facing, and expand our processing capabilities.

Although I had concerns about the initial cost, timely enough, a proposal for a used laser engraving machine was presented, and I decided to make the purchase.

What results follow laser machine installation?

Cutting acrylic for the main task, which used to take an entire day with the scroll saw machine, can now be shortened to about 1 hour. Moreover, we can now accomplish intricate shapes and fine details that were challenging to achieve through manual labor.

What are your future prospects for the laser business?

While sign production is currently our main focus, we aspire to use laser technology to create items beyond signage. Our goal is to increase production capacity, expand our sales, and ultimately invest in higher-grade laser equipment. This will allow us to broaden our product range and enhance overall quality.
